Today is Publication Day for The Christian Past That Wasn't
Don't worry, there's still time to get your copy!
Today is the book birthday of The Christian Past That Wasn’t: Debunking the Christian Nationalist Myths That Hijack History. You can now get it anywhere books are sold, and I certainly hope you do.
It is on the shelves at Barnes & Noble book stores just waiting for a knowledge-thirsty reader to come snap it up. Currently in the New & Noteworthy section, I imagine it will eventually end up in history or political science.
In any case, I hope the book does better than the Pittsburgh Pirates are doing now. I thought about wearing a different hat, but then I didn’t want to be a fair weather fan. Not that there has been much fair weather for Pirates fans, but there does seem to be a little more hope this year.
Several book related posts and podcasts are out today. I will list them below and you can check them out at your convenience.
1. Episode four of The Christian Past That Wasn’t podcast is out today with a focus on chapter three’s myth that America is a covenant homeland for European Protestants. I argue America is not a covenant nation. Given the Rededicate 250 business, this is a timely episode.
2. I appear on the Faithful Politics podcast with Will Wright and Josh Burtram today to discuss the book and Christian nationalism. This is a significant conversation with very little fluff. I encourage you to check this out. They have some amazing content coming out in June with a killer guest list. You won’t always agreed with their guests but you will understand their views better after listening to the programs.
3. Keri Ladner’s substack has two excerpts from the book with a bit of commentary. I recently gave her new book a shout out as it came to market.
4. Michael Newnham at Phoenix Preacher has a super article with a strong buy rating on the book.
5. The Indiana Citizen has a nice tribute to the book as a part of a larger article on public education. (scroll down to the bottom)
6. Jeff Brumley with Baptist News Global has a feature article out today on the book.
To my subscribers, thanks for putting up with near nonstop promotion of the book. There may be nobody more annoying than a person with a new book coming out. However, my subscriber list has grown throughout the months of book preparation and I hope that’s a sign that there is a desire for what this book is about. Anyway, I am not done talking about it or sticking up for the separation of church and state. I hope this book can get where it needs to go. Thanks for anything you are doing to help that happen.
And “Ellie still in the mix,” I hope it was worth the wait.
You should be able to get or order the book wherever you buy books. For some great options, go to www.christianpast.com. Amazon is here.
