Gospel for Asia Founder and CEO K.P. Yohannan Died Today Following Injuries Suffered in Car Accident
Confirmed by Gospel for Asia in a statement
Several online reports based in India reported this morning that Gospel for Asia founder and CEO, K.P. Yohannan was hit by a car on Tuesday. Gospel for Asia confirmed in a statement that Yohannan died this morning due to his injuries.
Yohannan, who is also known as “Metropolitan Moran Mor Athanasius Yohan” as the head of Believers Eastern Church in India “suffered grievous injuries in a road accident” during a morning walk yesterday according to one report.
The India-based Christian Messenger said Yohannan had emergency surgery at a Dallas based hospital after the accident. No other details were provided by GFA; at 9:30am, a GFA representative had no comment about Yohannan’s situation.
Yohannan was considered the head of the Believers Eastern Church, based in India but with members around the world. Gospel for Asia is based in the U.S. and was rocked by fund raising scandals in 2015, losing accreditation with Evangelical Association for Financial Accountability. The organization still has funds encumbered in India by the Indian government due to violations of Indian charity laws.
Believers Eastern Church in India released the following statement this morning:
Dear Faithful of the Church,
With profound grief and sorrow, we would like inform that His Holiness Athanasius Yohan I, our honourable Metropolitan reposed in the Lord this evening, the 8th of May 2024.
He passed away due to sudden cardiac arrest in a hospital in Dallas, Texas where he had been receiving treatment since his accident.
Further details will be announced soon by the Holy Synod.
May his memory be eternal!
So odd that he was walking on a two lane highway in the early morning hours, which was not his usual custom, apparently.
