If Biden Should Drop Out, So Should Trump
If the debate decides who should run, then we need to start over
I watched the debate last night, did you? With the post-debate analysis, it is a few hours I will never get back.
It was horrifying in many ways. The question kept coming to me: why are these two men our main choices? Something isn’t right.
Without links or sources, here’s my impression. Biden has a pretty good policy team and he has gotten a lot done in the face of a difficult Congress, but he was not able to get it across last night. News reports said he had a cold with symptoms significant enough that he was tested for COVID. This did not come up at the debate, but it was apparent he wasn’t sharp. One cannot unsee what was seen. He misspoke frequently and often lost the plot.
Today, Democratic pundits are calling for Biden to drop out. Last night on MSNBC, former Senator Claire McCaskill said Democratic Senators were calling her saying the same thing.
While I don’t agree, I get it. But here’s what I don’t get. Republicans should be saying the same thing about Donald Trump. Why aren’t they?
Trump beamed in from whatever dimension he lives in and did what he does. He lies effortlessly. If he is talking, he is lying. He claimed to have gotten policies passed that were actually signed into law by Joe Biden. He said all legal scholars wanted Roe v. Wade overturned. He lied about Nancy Pelosi’s role in the January 6th attack and minimized the insurrection. He deflected many of the questions and never answered them, even when directed back by the moderators. Although clear and audible, his answers were often incoherent and frankly, delusional. He looked and sounded stronger, but the content was bizarre and frightening.
Based on that performance, if Biden goes, then so should Trump. They could go play golf together, work on their handicaps. Okay, now I’m delusional.
Here’s the thing, no high level Republican is calling for Trump to step down. Most of them are saying he did a great job. Like a naked emperor, Trump basks in the adoration of his party. I did say “his party” since independent thought is no longer allowed in the Republican party. All that matters is that Dear Leader hears the applause of his subjects. The GOP in 2024 is not a political party, but instead, a cult.
Just keep that in mind when making your political calculations.
I didn't watch, but from what I've read, TFG did his own personal version of a Gish Gallop.
They are both too old. However, I will still choose Democracy over Chaos...for as long as the Supreme Court allows it to exist.
One politician has been hidden, propped up and protected (Biden); never really being exposed to a critical electorate. The other has been rightly, relentlessly exposed to criticism and continues to win the confidence of a stubborn plurality. We have always had a complete view of Trump, with multiple opportunities to dump him, and have not. We finally got a tiny window into the mind of Biden, now we can make an more informed decision. What does it mean that the Democratic party knew his disabilities and lied about it? RFK asked, "Who are the people with lanyards around their necks that have been making the real decisions at the WH?" Citizens deserve to be informed before they vote; now we have more of the facts, which is why people are freaking out.
